Annie & Logan — A Seattle morning

Annie & Logan

Annie and Logan embracing in their Seattle apartment, soft morning light.

To Annie and Logan —

We did this in your apartment on a slow Seattle morning. No location scouting, no driving to a viewpoint, no light we hadn't already been told about. Just the window over the bed, the white sheets you hadn't quite made up yet, the cup of something on the bedside table that I was careful not to photograph.

There is a school of photography that wants couples in epic places — cliffs, deserts, fog. There is another school that knows the truest photographs sometimes happen in rooms 10 feet wide, when the people in them aren't being asked to perform.

You weren't performing. The morning wasn't either. I came in, I shot quietly for an hour, I left. The pictures came back looking like the inside of a relationship that already worked.

That's the rarest thing in this business, and the most honest. Thank you.

Stephanie
