Marilynn & Larry — Not the first time, not the last

Marilynn & Larry

Marilynn and Larry on their wedding day, smiling under the park pavilion.

To Marilynn and Larry —

There's something the late-in-life weddings know that the young ones haven't learned yet.

You knew it. The park pavilion. The pink. The whole family coordinated like a watercolor on purpose. The picnic tables, the folding chairs, the wedding cake from the local place. Not a vendor list in sight. Not a planner. Just the people who had been around long enough to make it home — and the two of you, finally getting around to saying so out loud.

I have photographed cathedrals and cliffs and Iceland. I have photographed mansions on the coast and old vineyards in the south of France. The truest wedding I have ever shot may have been yours, under a tin roof, in a Tuesday-afternoon kind of light, with the family laughing at every other line.

Some weddings are about getting there. Yours was about already being there.

For the couple

If your day is the one worth remembering,
I’d like to be the one who keeps it.
