Meghan & Reuben — Mountain wedding

Meghan & Reuben

Reuben dipping Meghan in his arms outside a wood-sided barn.

To Meghan and Reuben —

There is a frame from your day I will never get over. Reuben, you have Meghan in your arms — both of you laughing, the dip almost a fall, the barn behind you doing nothing to interrupt. Meghan, you are holding the bouquet like a flare.

The whole day was that kind of day. The ceremony chairs in a semi-circle on the field, the mountains a few miles off doing the heavy lifting in the background, and the two of you mostly trying very hard not to start crying or laughing or both.

I have made a lot of wedding pictures. The ones that hold up at fifty years out are the ones that look like people — not like brides and grooms. Yours look like people.

For the couple

If your day is the one worth remembering,
I’d like to be the one who keeps it.
