Tammy & Sang — Sutro Baths

To Tammy and Sang —

San Francisco is the loudest version of itself almost always. The day we made these pictures, it wasn't.

We met early. We walked the cypress grove first — those old trees that lean toward each other like they know what they're doing. Then the baths themselves — the ruined pools, the gulls, the long Pacific weather doing whatever it does at the edge of a continent. You moved through all of it like two people who'd agreed in advance not to perform.

I loved that. I love what came out of it. These were engagement photographs, technically. They feel, to me, like a small ceremony of their own.

I can't wait to see what the wedding looks like.
