Yvette & Dennis — A wedding in red

To Yvette and Dennis —

You wore red. Not white, not cream, not the colour the rule book hands out — red. The dress matched the day you were having: late afternoon, late spring, late love, all of it lit from inside.

I keep thinking about the mountain. How patient it was. How the wind moved your dress and didn't move you. How both of you stood at the lip of the ridge and looked at each other like you'd already figured out the hard part somewhere else, years ago, and the wedding was only the part you wanted on the record.

Some days you photograph weddings. Some days you photograph people in the middle of being relieved.

This was the second kind.
